Retired General Denies Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

Retired General Gana Unawar denied any involvement in an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu during an interrogation by a multi-agency investigative panel. The investigation involves retired military personnel and civilians, with names appearing on a financial distribution list linked to the suspected coup financing, including a reported transfer of 2 million naira.

Unawar acknowledged receiving money but maintained that he engaged in no illegal activities. The Nigerian Army informed the Federal High Court in Abuja about credible plots to overthrow Tinubu's administration.

Six defendants, including retired naval captain Erasmu Ochegobia and police inspector Ahm Ibrahim, face 13 charges, including treason and money laundering. Unawar, who served in the military for 35 years, stated that he often forwarded messages without reading them, claiming they contained politically sensitive material.

He expressed frustration at being linked to the case and insisted that the allegations were unfair.
