Nigeria Leads Africa with Highest Private Jet Count

Nigeria currently holds the highest number of private jets in Africa, with nearly 240 operational within the country. Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo revealed this during discussions with Bombardier Inc., a leading Canadian aerospace company, about establishing a major aircraft service center in Nigeria.

This center aims to provide maintenance support for Bombardier aircraft across Africa, significantly reducing overseas maintenance costs and conserving foreign exchange. The rise in private jets from just 100 in 2021 highlights a drastic increase despite economic challenges.

Keyamo indicated that around 70% of these jets are foreign-registered, often used in illegal charter operations. A task force has been set up to investigate these operations.

The Nigerian government is committed to creating an enabling environment for indigenous operations and strategic partnerships with global aircraft manufacturers to improve safety and operational efficiency in the aviation industry.
