Anambra Keke, Okada Operators Protest Permit Price Hike

Keke riders in Anambra State, represented by the AKDF, have raised concerns over a price hike for riders permits, which were officially set at ₦5,250 by the Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Hon Edward Ibuzo, on July 27, 2026. Following a weekly meeting, tricycle operators, through their Secretary U.

Umeh, reported that they were unable to obtain the permits due to inflated prices charged by staff at designated points of sale. The operators claimed that the prices for the riders permit had been increased to ₦9,000, ₦12,500, and ₦15,000 at different locations throughout the state.

While the AKDF members expressed their willingness to comply with the commissioner’s directive, they insisted on paying only the officially announced price. Additionally, anonymous okada riders voiced their frustration, urging the Commissioner for Transport to address the issue of public servants exploiting the situation for personal gain, and reiterated their readiness to comply with the directive if the selling agents adhered to the stipulated price.
