Abuja City Centre's Keke Napep and Okada Ban Continues

Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, confirmed that commercial tricycles, known as Keke Napep, and motorcycles (Okada) will continue to be prohibited from operating within the Abuja city centre.

This decision was reached following a meeting of the FCT Security Council, which identified these modes of transport as both a nuisance and a security threat. During his monthly media chat, Wike mentioned that he had approved new measures to restrict their operations to designated areas, although he acknowledged the challenges of enforcing a complete ban across the entire Federal Capital Territory.

He instructed security agencies to identify areas where Keke Napep and Okada are not needed. Additionally, Wike addressed the issue of beggars and destitute persons in the city, stating that the FCTA cannot provide accommodation for individuals arriving from neighboring states and that efforts to remove them would continue.
