Enugu Government Addresses Misinterpretation of Transport Gathering

The Enugu State Government dismissed reports of a protest by commercial bus drivers and tricycle operators, clarifying that the gathering was to request designated parking spaces at a new terminal, not a reaction to alleged excessive taxes or fuel price increases. Onyekwere Nwobodo, the special adviser to the governor on media, stated that the operators were concerned about parking arrangements around the Ogbete Main Market and sought spaces within the new terminal.

Nwobodo accused opposition elements of misrepresenting the incident to create a false narrative of discontent with the administration, particularly as political campaigns were ongoing. He noted that the protest had not occurred during the three years of the current administration, which has maintained a friendly tax regime.

Nwobodo also criticized media reports based on unnamed sources and commended police intervention that prevented a potential breach of public peace. He urged residents to seek security clearance for protests to ensure orderly processions.
