Rivers ADC Considers Consensus for Candidate Selection

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of Chairman Chukwudi Dimkpa, is exploring the possibility of using a consensus method for selecting candidates for upcoming elections. Dimkpa stated that while the party prefers this method to reduce costs and foster unity, it remains open to direct primaries if the consensus does not yield suitable candidates.

He emphasized the importance of building unity early to avoid disputes that often arise during primaries. The ADC aims to distinguish itself by focusing on a people-centered political platform rather than being influenced by powerful individuals or established power blocs.

Dimkpa highlighted the party's commitment to empowering ordinary members and the wider public, including business owners in the state, to play a significant role in determining candidates. The ADC also seeks to create opportunities for youth and women in leadership positions, contrasting with older political parties where younger aspirants often struggle to advance.
