Rivers APC Denies Favoritism in Aspirant Screening Process

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims that it favored loyalists of former Governor Nyesom Wike during the screening of House of Assembly aspirants. Chibuik Ikenga, the state public secretary, stated that Wike is not a member of the APC and had no involvement in the screening process.

The screening was conducted peacefully and transparently, with 33 aspirants cleared and 65 not cleared. The party has set up an appeal committee, chaired by Abdul Mahmud, to review complaints from aspirants regarding the screening process.

The committee received a full report indicating that 98 aspirants participated in the exercise. It was noted that some aspirants failed to submit required documents during the screening, which affected their clearance.

The committee emphasized the importance of documentary evidence over oral claims and stated that discrepancies in documents could lead to disqualification.
