Rivers APC Successfully Conducts Peaceful Primaries

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its House of Representatives primaries on Saturday across the state's 23 local government areas, resulting in 13 candidates emerging for various federal constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wahab Owokoniran, the chairman of the Rivers State House of Representatives primaries election committee, praised party members for maintaining peace and order during the primaries, expressing disappointment over the absence of violence despite widespread perceptions of political unrest in the state.

He noted that aspirants met the requirements of the party's constitution and electoral guidelines. The results were announced at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt, with notable winners including Martin Amaewhul for the Obio Akpor federal constituency and Bless Amadi for the Port Harcourt federal constituency II.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, represented by Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner Johnson Sinikiem, was present during the announcement. Four aspirants were disqualified, allegedly due to loyalty to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
