Rivers State Government Denies Clash Over 2026 Budget

The Rivers State Government has refuted claims of a renewed clash between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly concerning the delay in the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill. In a statement released on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, the government clarified that the budget proposal is still in the legislative process and emphasized Fubara's commitment to collaborating with the lawmakers for the state's development.

Nzeshi stated that the 2026 budget proposal had been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently being considered according to established procedures. He urged those spreading negative narratives to cease, highlighting the need for peace and harmony in Rivers State.

This clarification comes amid renewed interest in the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, particularly following Fubara's alignment with Minister Nyesom Wike, which had raised expectations for a more cooperative relationship regarding the budget's passage.
