Engineers Push for Legislation to Prevent Building Collapses

Engineers in Rivers State are calling for legislative action to combat the rising incidents of building collapses and fuel tanker accidents across Nigeria. During the investiture of the 5th National Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Engineers (NISafety), Dr.

Andrew Mondai Abanum, the organization highlighted the alarming rate of building collapses and fuel tanker accidents, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property. The NISafety is urging the National Assembly and the 36 State Houses of Assembly to enact laws that would empower relevant bodies to effectively monitor and regulate construction practices.

Dr. Abanum expressed concern over the safety of tanker drivers and the need for awareness campaigns to prioritize safety in the transportation of petroleum products.

He lamented the devastating consequences of accidents involving fuel tankers, which often lead to massive destruction of property and loss of lives.
