Rivers Governor Fubara Orders Probe After Building Collapse

On Wednesday, a five-storey building collapsed along Odili Road in Port Harcourt, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. In response, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the complete seal-off of the construction site.

The governor visited the site on Thursday afternoon to assess the situation and stated that the site would remain sealed until the root cause of the incident is determined. Preliminary investigations indicated that the developers had previously refused inspections by state authorities, raising concerns about compliance with building regulations.

Governor Fubara expressed condolences to the victim's family and emphasized the need for adherence to modern engineering standards to prevent such incidents. He noted that the evacuation process at the construction site has been temporarily suspended, and all machinery was turned off.

The governor criticized the lack of compliance with building regulations, stating that such a tragedy should not occur in the 21st century.
