NSCDC Investigates Fatal Incident Linked to Oil Theft

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is investigating a tragic incident in Rivers State where individuals allegedly involved in illegal tapping and scooping of petroleum products died from exposure to hazardous petroleum fumes. Olufemi Ayodele, the Special Assistant Media and Communication in the Rivers State Command of NSCDC, stated that the command is working with other security agencies to uncover the details surrounding the incident.

Dr Dennis Reuben, the Rivers State Commandant of NSCDC, expressed condolences to the affected families and communities, urging reliance on verified information regarding casualty figures. The command is enhancing its operational capacity by deploying two gunboats to improve surveillance and rapid-response operations against vandalism and illegal bunkering.

The investigation will examine the circumstances of the illegal tapping, including access to the site and potential negligence or collusion. The NSCDC condemned the illegal activities, warning perpetrators of severe consequences.
