Nigerian Government Summons China Harbour Over Road Project Safety Concerns

The Federal Government of Nigeria has summoned China Harbour Engineering Company over public health safety issues related to ongoing road projects. During a meeting in Abuja, Minister of Works, David Umahi, received complaints about excessive dust from construction activities on the Mararaba-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi corridor. Umahi directed the Permanent Secretary to mandate the contractor to implement immediate dust control measures, including soil stabilization techniques. Failure to comply within seven days could lead to the suspension of the 9th Mile-Enugu road project. The government also expressed concerns about the slow pace of work on the 7th Axial Road project in Lagos due to insufficient site mobilization.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Works announced a six-week partial closure of parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for urgent repairs and expansion joint work on the Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo Punch Bridge. The closure aims to address safety risks and alleviate traffic congestion. The CBC Construction Company has been tasked with completing the repairs within the specified timeframe.
