Parents Appeal UK Court Verdict for Nigerian Student's Conviction

Aderinkola Akinrinola and Olayinka Akinrinola, parents of Nigerian student Oluwatobiloba Akinrinola, are appealing for a review of a UK court verdict that convicted their son of robbery and blackmail on June 19, 2026. Currently held in Nottingham prison pending sentencing scheduled for July 27, 2026, they claim their son is innocent of the charges against him.

They argue that the conviction was based on circumstantial evidence and that Oluwatobiloba was not present during the robbery incident that occurred on November 21, 2025. The parents assert that the victim testified in court that Oluwatobiloba briefly entered the room during the robbery but left immediately, expressing a desire not to be involved.

They also highlight that no evidence linked Oluwatobiloba to the crime, including a lack of money transfers to his bank account and the absence of any items belonging to him at the scene. The parents are calling for relevant authorities and human rights organizations to re-examine the case to ensure justice is served.
