No Deal Yet for Iniesta as Morocco's Technical Director

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified that there is currently no agreement between Andrés Iniesta and the Moroccan Football Federation for the role of Technical Director. This follows the resignation of head coach Walid Regragui, who stepped down on Thursday after a brief tenure of six weeks, which ended after Morocco's loss in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final to Senegal.

Despite circulating reports that Iniesta had signed a contract for a senior technical role, Romano emphasized that talks are still ongoing and nothing has been finalized. Spanish outlet Marca has suggested that Morocco is exploring a broader overhaul of its football structure in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which may include appointing Iniesta to a sports leadership role and Xavi Hernández as the national team coach.

The Moroccan Football Federation is already reshaping its technical bench ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Moham Ouahbi stepping in as head coach and João Sacramento joining the backroom staff.
