Rousey and Carano to Undergo Stricter Concussion Tests

Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano are set to meet in a five-round featherweight bout on May 16 in California, marking Rousey's return to MMA after a decade. Both fighters will undergo stricter neurological concussion tests as mandated by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Andi Foster, the CSAC Executive Director, stated that additional tests are required for fighters aged 40 and above, which include blood work, neurocognitive tests, magnetic resonance angiograms (MRA), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, and electrocardiograms (EKG). Rousey, who retired from MMA ten years ago, has been vocal about her past concussions and the need for thorough assessments.

Carano, who retired from MMA 17 years ago, is also a pioneer in women's sports. This event will be the first MMA event produced by Netflix, with Rousey being the first female signed to the promotion.
