Sahara Group Calls for Energy Transition Reforms in Africa

Sahara Group convened the third edition of Asharami Square under the theme “Energising Africa’s Future: Legacy, Impact and Transformation,” focusing on reforms in energy transition, infrastructure financing, and energy journalism. Ejiro Gray, Director of Governance and Sustainability at Sahara Group, emphasized that Africa's energy future should reflect local realities and called for balanced journalism to address energy complexities.

The event introduced the Asharami Square Energy Reporting Fellowship Judging Panel, aimed at enhancing journalists' understanding of the energy sector. Sadiq Wanka, Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, discussed the emerging investment opportunities in Nigeria's electricity sector due to ongoing reforms.

A panel, including Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika and Temitope George, examined financing for Africa’s energy future, agreeing that strong governance and project preparation are essential for attracting investment.

Kemi Awodein highlighted governance's critical role in unlocking capital for infrastructure development.
