Sanwo-Olu Issues 72-Hour Quit Notice for Shanty Demolition

On a Saturday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a 72-hour ultimatum for the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. During a monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Surulere Local Government Area, he emphasized the need to address illegal structures along the median of the expressway, specifically warning occupants to vacate by next week.

The demolition will cover the stretch from Oril-Iganmu to Okokomaiko, with enforcement teams deployed to remove all illegal structures. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of maintaining the expressway, which is a significant public investment, and stated that the area should not be allowed to turn into a slum.

He also discussed ongoing waste management efforts, including plans to add 150 compactors to the waste collection fleet and the establishment of a material recovery facility in Ikorodu, aimed at processing 4,250 metric tons of waste daily.
