Sanwo-Olu Orders Demolition of Distressed Buildings in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has ordered the demolition of distressed buildings surrounding the site of a collapsed three-storey building in Alakija. During an inspection tour, he expressed condolences to the families of the victims and praised the swift emergency response, which led to the rescue of 27 individuals, while nine casualties were recorded.

Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information, stated that the governor is saddened by the incident and emphasized the need for compliance with safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies. He warned residents to vacate buildings marked as unsafe and assured that any owners of collapsed structures would face prosecution if found violating building regulations.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other agencies were involved in the rescue operations. Survivors are receiving treatment at various hospitals, and investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
