Lagos to Host Inaugural National Intermediate Games 2026

The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Director General Bukola Olopade, has chosen Lagos State to host the inaugural National Intermediate Games, scheduled for October 1 to 15, 2026. The event, tagged EKO 2026, aims to bridge the gap between grassroots sports and elite competition for athletes aged 15 to 18.

Olopade cited Lagos' established grassroots sports development structure, sporting infrastructure, and proven capacity to organize major events as key factors in the selection. The Games will utilize various venues, including the Teslim Balogun Stadium, National Stadium, and several other sports complexes.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formed a Local Organising Committee chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube, with Lekan Fatodu and Mobolaji Ogunlende as co-chairmen. The initiative is part of the NSC's Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy, aiming to provide proper competition and support for young athletes to advance to elite levels.
