Saraki Backs Wike's PDP Faction Ahead of 2026 Convention

Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the former President of the Nigerian Senate, has expressed confidence that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge stronger despite claims of its decline. In an interview on Thursday, Saraki backed the faction of the PDP loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is set to hold its convention on March 29, 2026.

Saraki dismissed suggestions that the PDP has lost relevance, asserting that the party remains deeply rooted in the minds of Nigerians despite internal crises affecting it. He acknowledged the party's internal disagreements but insisted that its leaders are committed to resolving issues and preserving party unity.

Saraki also admitted that mistakes made during the earlier convention in Ibadan contributed to the ongoing legal battles affecting the party. He emphasized the need for the PDP to remain competitive in the political landscape.
