SCAN Summit to Address Indigenous Shipowners' Challenges

The Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) is preparing for its 2026 Summit, scheduled for October 29, 2026, at Rockview Hotels, Apapa, Lagos. The summit, themed “Low-Risk Capital for Indigenous Shipowners: Overcoming Regulatory, Financial Bottlenecks,” aims to tackle the financial challenges and regulatory hurdles that indigenous shipowners face in Nigeria's maritime sector.

SCAN President Moses Ebosele stated that despite Nigeria's significant maritime potential, foreign operators control over 95% of the carriage of Nigerian imports, exports, and associated freight earnings, with local participation remaining critically low at about 4% to 5%. The summit seeks to bring together key decision-makers and regulatory bodies to develop actionable pathways for unlocking adequate funding and creating an enabling environment for Nigerian-owned vessels to increase their participation and capacity in both domestic and international waters.
