SDP's Adebayo Explains El-Rufai's Expulsion Reasons

Adewol Adebayo, a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), revealed the reasons behind the expulsion of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai from the party. Adebayo stated that El-Rufai's membership process was irregular, as he allegedly secured a membership card outside the official system and did not complete the required registration procedures.

Following El-Rufai's public announcement of joining the SDP, inquiries were made within the party structure, revealing no record of his membership at the ward level. Despite attempts by SDP leadership to resolve the issue quietly, tensions escalated when El-Rufai began holding meetings with national officials and making public statements.

Adebayo emphasized that El-Rufai ignored warnings to comply with party rules, leading to disciplinary measures and ultimately his expulsion. Adebayo criticized the trend of old politicians regrouping under opposition platforms, asserting that the SDP aims to build a political movement driven by ordinary Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
