SDP Expels Gabam, Elects Adebayo as Presidential Candidate

On June 9, 2022, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expelled Shehu Gabam and former national youth leader Uchechukwu Ogbonna, citing disciplinary measures. This decision was made during a convention where a motion for their expulsion received unanimous approval from state party chairmen.

Gabam described the action as illegal and claimed it violated the SDP constitution and the Electoral Act. He accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of interfering in party affairs.

In response, Governor Mohammed's spokesperson dismissed Gabam's allegations as baseless. Following the expulsion, Adebayo emerged as the SDP presidential candidate after a unanimous vote from delegates representing 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Adebayo pledged to rescue Nigeria from issues such as hunger and joblessness, criticizing the current leadership and the APC for abandoning internal democracy.
