SDP Confirms Gomb as Authentic Leader Amid Crisis Claims

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reaffirmed that Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gomb remains the authentic national chairman, insisting that no court in Nigeria has the authority to remove him from office. This statement was issued by the party's national public secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in response to claims made by former national chairman Shehu Musa Gabam, which the SDP described as a deliberate distortion of court judgments intended to mislead the public. The party clarified that a recent court appeal concerning the Ekiti State governorship primary election does not affect its leadership structure. Gabam was expelled following disciplinary procedures for alleged financial misconduct, with the expulsion ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on March 9, 2026. The SDP emphasized its commitment to democratic consolidation and social justice, focusing on preparations for the 2027 general elections while maintaining internal stability and expanding its membership.
