SDP Calls for Leadership Accountability Amid Fraud Case

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), led by National Chairman Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, is urging accountability within its leadership as a court case regarding alleged financial fraud has been adjourned to August 17, 2026.

The adjournment was due to the court's inability to sit, prompting the party to express confidence in the prosecution despite the delay. The case involves former officials of the party, with accusations of misappropriation and financial crimes.

The SDP is reviewing its 2024 bank statements, which allegedly reveal suspicious transactions, including repeated payments to individuals without official responsibility. The party has emphasized the need for the judiciary to expedite the resolution of politically related criminal cases ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Additionally, the SDP dismissed claims regarding the restoration of former National Chairman Shehu Musa Gabam, asserting that leadership matters are internal affairs of the party and not subject to external interference.
