SDP's Adebayo pledges solar panels on every Nigerian roof within 11 months

Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party's 2027 presidential aspirant, has committed to equipping Nigerian residences with rooftop solar technology inside 11 months of his election victory. Speaking Tuesday during an Arise Television Prime Time broadcast, Adebayo outlined an approach centered on deploying systems ranging from 11 to 15 kilowatts across individual homes, positioning this initiative as essential to tackling Nigeria's persistent electricity deficit.

Beyond rooftop installations, the initiative encompasses establishing solar-panel manufacturing facilities nationwide alongside workforce development schemes. These programs would equip Nigerians with competencies for mounting, operating, and maintaining such systems.

The dual focus on local production and human capital aims to stimulate employment opportunities in renewable energy sectors while reducing dependency on imported technology. This approach fundamentally shifts toward decentralized electricity generation.

Adebayo argues Nigeria has devoted substantial resources to extending conventional grid infrastructure with disappointing results, particularly in peripheral areas. His vision prioritizes self-sufficient household power generation, thereby lessening pressure on the country's unstable electricity grid that leaves millions without consistent access.

Rolling out these installations across Nigeria's enormous geographic expanse and demographic scale entails substantial operational hurdles. When presenting his platform, Adebayo declined to furnish concrete details on financial requirements, implementation sequencing schedules, or cost forecasting.
