Nigerian Government Cracks Down on Unqualified Teachers for WAEC and NECO Accreditation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a directive that secondary schools with unqualified teachers will lose accreditation for external examinations such as WAEC and NECO. The directive, effective from March 2027, mandates that all teachers must be certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to ensure professionalism in the teaching profession.

Schools whose teachers are not TRCN-certified will be disqualified from serving as examination centers for WASSCE, NABTEB, NECO, and NBIAS exams. This move aims to enhance the quality of education by ensuring that only qualified teachers are responsible for preparing students for external examinations.
