Anita Chukwu Withdraws from 2027 Presidential Race

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) clarified that Anita Zugwai Chukwu voluntarily withdrew from the 2027 presidential race due to security concerns. Chukwu was nominated as the party's presidential candidate during the 3rd Elective National Convention and Presidential Primary on May 30, 2026, where she received unanimous support based on her competence and commitment to the party's manifesto.

She communicated her withdrawal in a letter dated August 12, 2026, after consulting with her family about the risks associated with campaigning. The YPP emphasized that there was no coercion or pressure involved in her decision.

Following her withdrawal, the party sought to replace her but did not find a suitable candidate, leading to Dr. Peter Agada being affirmed as the new candidate at a Special Presidential Substitution Primary on August 21, 2026. The YPP expressed pride in Chukwu's contributions and reiterated its commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity.
