Defence Minister Musa Advocates for Security and Development

On Monday, at the North Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), the Minister of Defence, underscored the necessity for Nigeria to tackle the root causes of insecurity. He stated that sustainable peace can only be achieved by addressing the conditions that foster violence and criminality.

Musa highlighted that the country’s security challenges are complex and cannot be resolved solely through military operations. He emphasized the importance of timely intelligence, effective coordination, conflict prevention, community engagement, responsible governance, and economic opportunities.

This approach aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the security and wellbeing of Nigerians. Musa reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing the capacity and welfare of security personnel and addressing socio-economic factors that undermine peace.

He noted that security and development are inseparable, impacting agriculture, commerce, and community prosperity. The minister described the North Central region's strategic importance to Nigeria's stability and prosperity.
