SEDC AND THE IGBO IDENTITY QUESTION

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) was established in 2024 as a symbol of the federal government's commitment to addressing the perceived marginalization of the region. The Commission aims to translate this symbol into action by shedding political influences and focusing on a bold and transparent development agenda.

Despite the rich human capital and entrepreneurial spirit of the South East, the region has faced neglect, insecurity, and economic challenges. The SEDC is tasked with bridging the infrastructure gap and driving growth, with a target of scaling the region's GDP from $40 billion to $200 billion by 2035.

The Commission also plans to engage stakeholders, state governments, and the private sector to prioritize the region's needs at both macro and micro levels. However, concerns have been raised about the potential politicization of the SEDC, which could derail its development goals.
