Senate Offers Financial Aid to Oyo Abduction Victims' Families

During a plenary session on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, announced a financial support package for the families of victims affected by the abduction crisis in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State. This initiative aims to assist the dependents of those who lost their lives during the 56-day ordeal.

The Senate will provide a total of 50 million Naira, divided among five families, including those of two teachers and three security personnel who were killed during the incident. The victims included Michael Oyedokun and Pastor John Olaley, both of whom were abducted, with Oyedokun reportedly killed during captivity.

The Senate also observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased and expressed condolences to their families. Akpabio praised the efforts of the Nigerian military and security agencies involved in the rescue operations and emphasized the need for stronger measures to prevent future attacks on schools.
