Senate Supports Families of Oyo Abduction Victims

During a plenary session on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, announced a financial support package for the families of victims affected by the Oyo abduction crisis. This incident involved the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriir Local Government Area, where two teachers were abducted, and three security personnel lost their lives during the rescue operations.

The Senate will provide ₦50 million, divided among five families of the deceased, including two teachers and three security personnel. The families will receive assistance to support the children left behind.

Akpabio praised the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian military and security agencies for their roles in the successful rescue operations, which lasted 56 days. The Senate observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of schools and vulnerable communities across Nigeria, prompting discussions on improving security measures.
