Senate Confirms Tinubu's Ministerial Nominee for Housing

On Thursday, the Nigerian Senate confirmed President Bola Tinubu's ministerial nominee, Muttaqha Darma, during a plenary session. Darma, who holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Bayero University, Kano, pledged to work closely with the National Assembly to address Nigeria's significant housing crisis, which affects approximately 100 million citizens.

He outlined plans to reform the housing sector, improve leadership, and expand access to affordable housing, particularly for low and middle-income earners. Darma emphasized the importance of collaboration with lawmakers to eliminate long-standing challenges in the housing sector.

He acknowledged the scale of the housing deficit and expressed optimism about implementing effective policies. The confirmation follows a request from President Tinubu, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and is seen as part of the administration's broader strategy to deploy technocrats in critical sectors, especially as housing demand continues to outstrip supply in major urban centers.
