Tony Nwoye Defects from ADC to NDC Amid Crises

On Wednesday, Tony Nwoye, the Senate Minority Whip, announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) during a plenary session. Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the clerk of the Senate to update the official records accordingly.

In his letter read on the Senate floor, Nwoye cited ongoing internal crises within the ADC that have weakened the party's structural stability. He referenced multiple litigations in the Federal High Court, including judgments that have arisen from disputes adversely affecting the party's cohesion.

Nwoye expressed that these internal divisions have made his decision to resign from the ADC and join the NDC necessary. His move comes amid a wave of defections from the ADC, including notable figures such as former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso.
