Nigerian Senate Acts to Rescue Women and Children from Libyan Prisons

The Nigerian Senate has intervened to secure the release of hundreds of Nigerian women and children held in detention centers in Libya, described as victims of modern-day slavery. Senators Akpoti, Uduaghan, and Ekpenyong called for urgent diplomatic action to end the abuses and bring the victims back home.

The motion also mandates Nigerian immigration and correctional services to liaise with Libyan authorities for the expedited release and repatriation of Nigerian inmates. Survivor testimonies highlighted the harrowing ordeals of torture, sexual violence, and forced labor endured by Nigerian migrants in Libya, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention.
