Senate Committee Questions Tribunal's N16m Fumigation Cost

The Senate committee, chaired by Osita Izunaso, expressed concern over the tribunal's expenditure of N16 million on office fumigation, which was part of a N30 million budget item approved for 2025. Tribunal chairman Aminu Junaidu justified the fumigation costs, stating it was necessary to prevent rodents from damaging sensitive documents and that the cleaning services were outsourced across its zonal offices.

The tribunal's 2025 budget report indicated additional spending, including N6.13 million on office stationery and computer consumables, with stationery deemed essential for writing judgments and producing certified true copies. The committee member, Ogoshi Onawo, criticized the tribunal for its continued reliance on stationery despite a shift towards digital operations.

Izunaso demanded clarification on the significant amount spent on cleaning services, highlighting the low public awareness of the tribunal's activities.
