Nigerian Senate Plans Electoral Reforms for New INEC Chairman Amupitan

The Nigerian Senate is set to facilitate a seamless transition for Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Senate aims to suspend discussions on constitutional electoral proposals to allow Amupitan time to settle into his role. The proposed reforms include deploying real-time electronic transmission of election results to reduce the burden on INEC and enhance transparency.

President Bola Tinubu endorsed Amupitan, emphasizing the need to protect Nigeria's electoral integrity. Amupitan, a 58-year-old law professor, is expected to prioritize electoral reforms and restore public confidence in INEC.
