SERAP Petitions CCB Over Alleged Electoral Act and Tax Law Irregularities

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a petition with Nigeria's Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) regarding alleged irregularities in the passage of the Electoral Act amendment bill and tax reform laws by members of the National Assembly. The petition, signed by SERAP's Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, accuses certain senators of secretly removing provisions related to electronic transmission of election results from the Electoral Act amendment bill despite a significant vote in favor.

SERAP alleges that this conduct violates the constitution and due process, raising concerns about potential abuse of office and conflicts of interest. The petition also highlights discrepancies in the harmonization of the tax reform bill passed by the National Assembly.

SERAP calls for a full-scale investigation by the CCB to determine if public officials have violated the code of conduct, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in governance. Failure to respond within seven days could lead to legal action against the Bureau.
