Akume Advocates Stronger ACPN-NAFDAC Partnership

On Thursday, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called for a stronger partnership between the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to combat counterfeit medicines in Nigeria. Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, Akume accepted an invitation to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the ACPN’s 45th Annual International Scientific Conference, themed “From Local Pharmacy Practice to Global Impact: Managing Complex Political Systems,” scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. Akume emphasized the critical role of community pharmacists in the healthcare system and the need for collaboration to address the public health threat posed by fake drugs.

He noted NAFDAC's ongoing enforcement efforts, including a task force in Kano State, and encouraged pharmacists to enhance local drug manufacturing through international partnerships.
