Shariah Council Defends Muslim Rights Amid U.S. Report

The Shariah Council, through its Secretary General Nafiu Baba Ahmad, has declared that no external authority can impede Muslims in Nigeria from practicing Shariah law. This statement follows a recent report submitted by the U.S.

Congress, which highlighted issues such as the Shariah blasphemy law and alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The council criticized the report for inaccurately portraying Nigeria's situation, asserting that it undermines the inalienable rights of Nigerian Muslims to practice their faith.

The council emphasized that Shariah law is constitutionally guaranteed in Nigeria, allowing Muslims to conduct their affairs according to their beliefs. Furthermore, it rejected external interference in Nigeria's internal matters, arguing that such actions could exacerbate tensions and undermine peace.

The council condemned violence against all individuals, regardless of their religious identity, and urged the Nigerian government to take decisive action to ensure security and justice for all citizens.
