Shehu Sani Exposes Fake Agencies in Nigeria's Bureaucracy

Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna, expressed concerns regarding the existence of fake agencies in Abuja that continue to operate beyond their intended mandates. He explained that the Federal Government frequently establishes ad hoc committees and special task forces for specific assignments with defined time frames.

Once these bodies submit their reports, they are expected to be dissolved; however, many persist due to inadequate follow-up and accountability. Sani highlighted that committees formed under the administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar'adua, and Muhammadu Buhari require auditing.

He provided an example of a data centre for persons living with disabilities, initially set up by the Jonathan administration, which continued to operate through the Buhari years until it shut down due to lack of funding. Sani also noted that the Federal Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Properties remained active for over a decade despite being intended for a short-term mandate.

He distinguished between committees that overstay their mandates and those that engage in outright fraud.
