Tensions Rise Over Kano Central APC Senate Ticket

The race for the Kano Central APC Senate ticket has faced significant challenges as six aspirants withdrew their candidacies in support of Ibrahim Shekarau during a meeting convened by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in Abuja. Shekarau, who defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April, is focused on strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Zaura, the APC candidate, described Shekarau's endorsement as an imposition and injustice, arguing that the race has been long and that Shekarau was not even invited to the reconciliation table. Dahiru Ahmad Maihuddadu, another aspirant, expressed his grievances about not being treated fairly and insisted on holding direct primaries.

Shekarau's campaign director, Umar Musa Mustapha, emphasized the importance of consensus to avoid internal divisions and highlighted the need for a strong candidate in Kano Central. The outcome of this contest is expected to influence the broader political dynamics in the state as the 2027 elections approach.
