Shettima Leads Nigeria's Delegation at UNGA81 in New York

On September 24, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the opening of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Shettima led Nigeria's delegation, which included Governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, along with other senior officials such as Minister of Defence Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.

The UNGA, themed “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all,” featured remarks from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and addresses from leaders including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump. Shettima is set to deliver Nigeria's national statement on September 24, outlining the country's stance on global issues and President Tinubu's priorities.

Additionally, he participated in the Third High-Level Roundtable of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, advocating for Africa to enhance its mineral processing and manufacturing capabilities.
