Shettima Critiques ADC's Digital Membership Registration

On Wednesday, during an interfaith breakfast event hosted by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its digital membership registration, which he labeled as "fake." Shettima's comments came after the ADC experienced significant irregularities in its online registration process, which began on March 1, 2023, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. The ADC's registration portal reportedly faced an overwhelming number of fictitious entries, raising concerns about the integrity of the process.

Shettima dismissed claims that opposition governors were coerced into joining the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi expressed concerns about the tight timelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 elections, arguing that the new electoral act's requirements would make it nearly impossible for the party to field candidates.

The INEC recently revised the election timetable following the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.
