Shettima Mourns Emir of Gumel, Calls Death a Huge Loss

Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed profound sorrow over the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad-Sani II, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026. Shettima conveyed condolences on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government during a visit to the royal family.

The late emir, who was the 16th Emir of Gumel, had a remarkable reign of nearly 46 years, having ascended the throne on December 16, 1980. Shettima highlighted the emir's contributions to peacebuilding, education, community development, and national cohesion, noting that he was a stabilizing voice and a father figure to his people.

He emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in fostering national unity and stability. Shettima extended condolences to the royal family, the Gumel Emirate Council, and the people of Jigawa State, praying for the late emir's forgiveness and for the strength of his family and community to cope with the loss.
