Shettima Condemns Xenophobic Attacks on Nigerians in SA

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated Nigeria's strong opposition to xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa. He emphasized that Nigeria will no longer tolerate the dehumanization or mistreatment of its citizens.

Shettima made these remarks after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Luanda. He stated that while Nigeria is committed to resolving issues with South Africa through dialogue and peaceful engagement, it will firmly assert its position when the dignity and safety of Nigerians are threatened.

Shettima expressed personal pain over the humiliation faced by Nigerians, referencing Nigeria's historical role in the liberation of Southern Africa. He called for South African authorities to protect lives and uphold human dignity in enforcing immigration policies, stressing the need for robust conversations to address these issues without escalating tensions.
