Shettima Urges NEC to Translate Economic Gains into Jobs

On Thursday, during the 160th monthly meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged the council to maintain ongoing economic reforms until they result in job creation, stronger purchasing power, and improved living conditions for Nigerians. Shettima stressed the need for the government to implement policies effectively and ensure continuity to build public confidence.

He stated that macroeconomic improvements must translate into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens. Additionally, he highlighted that President Bola Tinubu tasked the NEC with fostering productive cooperation across the federation.

The meeting also included the announcement of contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions, which will last three weeks, to prepare for training programs by the Nigerian Police Force. Furthermore, the NEC endorsed the Revised National Social Protection Policy (NSPP: 2026 – 2030), urging states to align their policies with this framework.
