On a condolence visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed sympathy to the Nigerian Army regarding a recent attack that left several military personnel dead, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimah. The attack occurred at a military base in Benisheikh, where suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters launched a coordinated assault around 12:30 AM on Thursday. Reports indicated that the attack targeted at least three military formations and advanced towards civilian areas. While the military headquarters dismissed claims of 17 soldiers, including a brigade commander, being killed, they confirmed that two officers and two soldiers were engaged during the incident. Lt. Col. Sani Uba of the Northeast Joint Task Force emphasized that the casualty figures circulating were false and misleading. Shettima underscored the sacrifices made by soldiers for peace and security, reiterating the government's commitment to supporting the military in combating terrorism.
