Shettima Consoles Nigerian Army After Deadly Attack

On a visit to Borno State, Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army following a deadly attack on military personnel in Benisheikh. The assault, attributed to suspected Boko Haram fighters, occurred around 12:30 AM on a Thursday, targeting multiple military positions and resulting in significant casualties, including the death of soldiers and a brigadier general, Oseni Braimah.

Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighted the sacrifices made by soldiers in service to the nation and reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to supporting the armed forces in combating terrorism. The North East Joint Task Force, represented by Lt.

Col. Sani Uba, dismissed claims of higher casualty figures, stating that reports of 17 soldiers killed were false and misleading.

Uba explained that the military faced a coordinated assault, which was more intense than previous encounters, but insisted that the official casualty figures would be released by the defense headquarters.
